lyrics

It’s four in the morning
In the Serengeti
I’m dodging Wildebeests in my dreams
In our tented Safari camp
Living the luxury life
But it’s not as peaceful as it seems

You stepped outside to see the stars…

We’d arrived from Amsterdam
Raised our arms like champions
As we stepped onto African soil
Four days at the village school
Four more days of lions
And my fear finally started to boil

‘Cause you stepped outside to see the stars
You called to me, it’s who you are

And then there were hippos
Slow dancing
It’s only the moon and the stars and us
We must be dreaming
Our hearts are pounding
Hippos and the moon and the stars and us
There were hippos….

At the omelet station
We sealed our secret
Over a wink and a sly smile
It seemed impossible
No one else had seen it
We’ll come clean in a little while

You stepped outside to see the stars
You called to me, it’s who you are

And then there were hippos
Slow dancing
It’s only the moon and the stars and us
We must be dreaming
Our hearts are pounding
Hippos and the moon and the stars and us
Hippos and the moon and the stars and us
There were hippos….

On Free Throws, he once again deploys lyric-writing that is both sardonic and bittersweet — and also sings and plays piano, keyboards, drums, and the saxophone and clarinet. ... more
